THE REAL (ESTATE) STORY By Larry Underhill FIVE YEARS AGO, two key players were added to The Statesman Team! Today l'll take a little trip down Memory Lane. I still marvel at the way this came to pass. FIRST CAME John DuBois. This story is a bit convoluted. John was already an accomplished Realtor five years ago, but years before that when he first obtained his license, he had contacted me in the hopes of joining my Team. "I've been reading your column for years!" John said. "I've always wanted to work for you." A huge compliment, but I had to tell him I just wasn't set up to train another brand-new Realtor. FAST FORWARD to 2017. I had noticed John's Facebook posts. I was impressed with his openness about his Christian faith, something I don't see very often. I called him and invited him to lunch. We had a good visit. When John got home, his wife Terri asked, "Did you talk about going to work for Larry?" John said, "No, we didn't really talk about the business." Then, a week later, (coincidentally as I walked into a local coffee house to meet Angel for the first time), I noticed John talking with a "headhunter" from a big-box real estate firm. It prompted me to call John to ask if he was considering a move. The rest is history! OF Angel McGregor! Angel and her husband Kenny are the parents of Jake McGregor, who leads The 180 Ministries along with his wife Alison. Back in 2017, Kenny had just moved to Lodi from Grass Valley to head up 180 Adventures, anoutdoor ministry for at-risk teenagers. One day, Kenny and I were standing on the porch of a hundred-year-old house The 180 was thinking of purchasing. Kenny mentioned that his wife was looking for a position. I learned that she was a veteran Realtor with a great track record. We arranged to meet, and again, the rest is history! NOW THE STORY I'M LEAVING OUT a few twists and turns in the road, but the bottom line is that each of these two great people are answered prayer for me! Over $160 million in local real estate sales later, not to mention the hundreds of clients served at a high level, I couldn't be more pleased. God is good. Have a great week!
