THE REAL (ESTATE) STORY By Larry Underhill "WHEN I GROW UP, I want to be just like you." That's my running joke with mentor and role model Phil Biddle. Phil and his wife Bonnie have impacted the lives of many Lodians, always in their quiet and unassuming way. THIRTY-FIVE YEARS AGO, Phil and Bonnie spotted a riverfront residential lot in Lodi. It was overgrown with briars, but they found a little weathered For Sale sign. They called the number and soon negotiated a deal. Serious Christ-followers, the Biddles promised God to use their home for whatever He had in mind. THEY'VE REMAINED FAITHFUL to that promise. So much so that their rambling two-story home has come to be known jokingly as "Biddles' Boarding House", providing a much-needed haven for visiting missionaries, young families in need of a "leg up", and innumerable others over three and a half decades. WEDDINGS on the lawn overlooking the Mokelumne River. Picnics. Backyard Bible studies. River cruises on the Biddles' pontoon boat. The Biddle home has been a Happy Place for many. YOU MAY REMEMBER Phil and Bonnie from their long stint as proprietors of Vine and Branches Christian Bookstore. Now in their eighties, they're happily retired and enjoying life in Southern California with son, daughter-in-law and grandkids. LEAVING LODI and all the relationships they built was a tough call for Phil and Bonnie. However, I'm pleased to report that they're settled into their new life, free from the hassles of maintaining a huge house and grounds. Partner and Team Co-Leader Angel McGregor and I were privileged to represent the Biddles in the SALE of their home. As I pound this column out, l've just received word that their sale has recorded! It's been an honor and a pleasure, Phil and Bonnie! We (and a whole lot of Lodi) love you both.
