We rode our bikes a mile up the dirt road to the wooden bridge. There we "fished" (Sliding down the waterfalls, throwing rocks in the creek, floating in the deeper pools). On rare occasions, there was an actual line in the water. THE TRIAL CLOSE (Gilly as he splashed in a waterfall): "Grandpa, when we leave here can we go to the cabin?" Our family cabin is a few miles from Beaver Creek. After some coaxing, I agreed to pop by the cabin on the way back to Lodi. A few minutes later... "Grandpa, do you think we could have marshmallows at the cabin?" I never turn down a marshmallow, and he knows it. THE UPSELL, half an hour later: "Grandpa, when we buy the marshmallows, we'll need chocolate and graham crackers for the S'Mores." Sneaky little joker. THE ULTIMATE ASK: As we enjoyed our S'Mores, Gilly asked, "Grandpa, since we're here, do you think we could stay overnight and go to your house in the morning?" I KNEW it was coming. Julie and his Mom okayed it, and we arrived home about noon the next day. I know, I know. Hey, the kid will only be nine for a short time. CONGRATULATIONS to Daniel, a two-tour Afganistan veteran. First home, new to Lodi. He's happy to be reunited with his two huskies after months apart. Our own John DuBois made this happen!
